On New Year's Eve Day, J and I spent the day hiking. We started with one hike, and afterwards I just had the itch to keep on going, so we trekked to another part of the island to do another. Here are some photos from the day.
We did our first hike in Vibrams and they were more comfortable than I anticipated.
Traversing down one of the slopes at Kolekole.
I was captivated by the Paper Bark Trees.
On top of the Kolekole Pass Rock.

After the first hike, we headed to the tip of the island to a place called Ka'ena Point. If you have a four wheel drive/off-road vehicle, you can drive pretty close to the end of the trail. But we don't. So we had to make the > 3 mile trek each way to get to the point. It's a hot, non-shaded, though mostly flat, trail, with some great views and potential treats at the end.
Shearwater nesting.
Monk seals were enjoying their day.
I hope your New Year's has been wonderful.
Happy 2013 friends!
